Frequently Asked Questions

What is legacy portraiture?

A legacy portrait is the balance of moment, composition, and printing technique that creates an heirloom-worthy art piece that will last more than a century & be passed down through generations.

Can I have just the digital photos?

As a legacy portrait photographer, I specialize in providing printed artwork. Any printed portrait from a signature portrait session will be accompanied by a corresponding digital file (i.e. .jpg) perfect for sharing with family and friends.

How much are printed images?

It’s best to discuss the specifics with you over the phone or on a video call so we can begin designing something to fit your style, space, and budget.

How long is a family portrait session?

Typically, a signature legacy session is up to 1 hour. If you’re concerned about attention spans or muscle/mobility concerns, please let me know so we can develop a plan together. Custom quotes are available.

If it helps, I once photographed family portraits for a wedding in 10 minutes and a family with 5 children under the age of 10 in less than 30 minutes.

Keep in mind that personal branding is a different setup and slightly different process with a typical session taking 90 minutes or more.

Can you help me with what to wear?

Absolutely! When you call to book your signature legacy portrait session, we’ll review your style preferences to design a session custom to you. Once you book, you’ll receive a Style & Color Guide, which you should review before your Style & Design Call where we’ll create a plan together for your timeless portraits.

How long before I see the images?

When we finish your session or within a few days, we will make arrangements for a Viewing & Ordering Appointment. Typically, this will be held about two weeks from your session. During the appointment, you will view a curated gallery of portraits with our basic retouching. You buy only what you love.

Please note that it is studio policy that all purchase decision-makers attend this appointment.

What if I forget my earrings or a pair of cufflinks?

Don’t worry! It happens more than anyone wants to admit & the studio has an assortment of earrings and cufflinks available if you forget something.

Do you have a wardrobe I can use?

The studio has a few dresses and fabric drapes available for your use. However, I strongly urge you to bring your own items to ensure a proper fit. We can coordinate further in your Style & Concept Call.

What happens if I need to reschedule my session?

Typically, rescheduling must be done 72 hours prior to the session. However, if you become symptomatic or exposed to Covid-19 or anything else requiring quarantine or isolation (e.g Strep throat, Mono, etc), please call to reschedule as soon as possible.

What happens if I need to cancel my session?

I will be sad to see you go. Remember that the initial fee is non-refundable.

Do you photograph headshots?

Each month, I set aside a limited number of sessions for headshots. Please call or email for the latest availability.

If you have a small business or are looking for personal branding, please reach out so we can discuss your project.

Can I bring my family/friend/spouse with me?

Yes, of course, provided they are being photographed as well.* Due to space available, I do limit the sessions to about 2 adults & 4 school-age children. We can discuss your needs and potential workarounds for larger groups during our initial consultation call.

*Please note that those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Where do the photoshoots take place?

The majority of the family portrait & headshot sessions occur at my home studio in Louisville, KY where the rain, snow, and humidity can’t stop us.

Where is the studio?

It is located in Louisville’s East End near Ballard High School and the Paddock Shopping Center. Since it’s by appointment only and attached to my home, the address is shared only upon confirmation of booking. Most of my clients are from Jefferson County and Oldham County.
